"Without the UN the world would be an even worse jungle than it is.The UN is often the only break on far worse things happening." - Danite And it does a lot of good, especially allowing very small and poor countries to maintain inexpensive diplomatic relations with all. But lets fact facts. The UN was created by - and gelded by - the United States after WW II to give the "United Nations" - i.e. the United States, Great Britain, France, China, and even the Soviet Union (not the world) a forum in which to rule the world, known as the "Security Council"; and the rest of the world a debating society known as "The General Assembly," where they could pretend they mattered. The dreaded "Veto" - which the US has used more than any other Security Council member - was the mechanism which ensured that no REAL sovereignty was sacrificed by any of the Permanent Members of the Security Council. The UN has served well as a mechanism for promoting US foreign policy on many occasions. Something which is inevitably ignored by the radical right which always hated the "one worlders" (the term One World was coined by Republican 1940 Presidential Candidate Wendel Wilkie), which shows you how far right the people who hate the idea are). The UN works about as well as it was really intended to work. It is mostly harmless rather than mostly dangerous. It is even helpful many times.
