    Had the Confederate States, the "South," had been allowed to succeed from the USA, the truncated USA would be a far better and more Progressive country now. The Plantation economy of the South would have collapsed and the Confederate states would have been impovrished. The Blacks might have rebelled against the White slave owners and could have established a state of his own. Gefen should read his history more carefully. The US Civil War was not fought against slavery but rather as a frivolous nationalistic exercise for frivolous abstract cause: to keep "The Union" together which is remarkably similar to the notion of "Eternally United Jerusalem" or "The Complete Land of Israel.". In both contexts and for both causes people suffer and die, for nothing. Lincoln also continued the Indian Wars without mercy, emptying the US of its indigenous people far more than Palestine ever was.....
