Europeans find themselves in a situation of which there is a need to please certain elements within their own societies. The Israeli-Arab conflict happens to be a part of their inflicting equation. There is no harm in having our counterparts wanting to mediate peace between us and the Palestinians. The problem with our counterparts is that they are attempting to dictate the terms, not facilitate them. The Palestinian leadership is so divided and incapable of coming to a consensus in order to properly hold discussions with their Israeli counterparts, forcing the Europeans to carry their weight. If "violating the rules of diplomacy" is the best accusation the Spanish and French FM's can come up with, one can't help but to conclude that there is a lot of truth to what Liebermann has said.
