In 1948 the Arabs in Palestine attacked Jews because they believed that together with the Arab armies, the Jews would stand no chance and be expelled from the region. During this war, thousands of Jews, many of which were refugees from the holocaust, lost their life, as did many Arabs. many Arabs left their homes, some expelled (as were the Jews in the villages conquered by the Arabs). So when the Arabs are talking about the Nakba, what is it that they mean: The suffering to both Arabs and Jews? The loss of homes and villages? No. They mourn the establishment of the state of Israel. This is the real Nakba as far as they are concerned. And how do we know this? Ask any Arab who is talking about the 'Nakba' (and many don't) if he/she recognizes Israel as the Jewish state, as a Zionist state, and you would get your answer in very clear words. So even those who accept 'Israel", like Abas, are in fact only changing their tactics: with Arab majority, one day Israel too will become an Arab state. Who needs wars when there is 'democracy'?
