My very stubborn grandfather refused to register him self as a Jew when the Nazi occupants in the Netherlands told him to do, when the Jewis Council urged him to. He did not want to listen to Nazi's and not to take orders from collaborators. My grandfather survived the shoa. Being married with a non-jewishwife also helped I gues. Over 95 % of the Dutch Jews registered themselves as such, just because they were told to do. Hundred and fourthousand jews out of hundred twentythousand did not return from thedeathcamps. Why were they so obidiant, why did they listen to authorities? This terrible secret needs to be unveiled to prevent another shoa.
