The Western secular legal system evolves from British law, US Constitution, and French Napolianic Code. Ultimately the secular legal system evolves from within the ancient Roman legal system. Israel doesnt need this Roman system! Israel has its own Jewish legal system: halakha! Halakha has fundamental legal precedents for human rights and personal freedoms. It can meet the needs of our 21st century. Example: Hillel says: "What you dont want others to do to you, dont do to others. This is all of Tora." This deepest halakhic principle is also all of human rights. Dont oppress others, if you dont want others to oppress you! What makes Hillel even better than secular formulations of human rights, is its conditionality. If someone violates human rights, WE MUST REMOVE THE HUMAN RIGHTS OF THE VIOLATOR! If people murder, we must remove their right to freedom of movement (sometimes their right to live). We must SILENCE those who oppose free speech.
