Kidnapping is terrorism. Shalit is being held by Hamas. Hamas is the duly elected government of palestinians. Abbas is a part of that government. Neither Hamas or Abbas is doing anything to secure Shalit's release. On the contrary, they are making ransom demands. Ok, you say what else is new? Well Shalit is being denied from any Red Cross or Red Crescent visitations and the reporting of that visit to his parents. That means the government of the palestinians is refusing to follow basic norms of a civilized entity. So what else is new you continue to say? Based on that the Red Cross should announce that all of its people and resources be removed from Hamas/palestinian controlled areas. Not doing so means being complicit in the barbaric actions of Hamas. One may not expect much from Hamas but Red Cross is supposed to have standards. The Hamas government needs to be held accountable. The Red Cross should secure a visit with Shalit or leave.
