Arens conveniently 'forgets' that the reason Israel withrew from s.Lebanon was because Hizbollah, not nearly as large, well trained and well supplied as it is now, was causing the IDF heavy and sustained casualties through roadside remote bombs, ambushes, land and personal mines and other guerillas tactics. The IDF was bleeding badly and Barak, very intelligently, pulled the military out of that death swamp. The current crisis started because of the issue of prisoner release, an issue that should've been negotiated and solved years ago. The 'ideas' of Moshe Arens mean endless wars, death and destruction on a far larger scale and permanent hopelessness. Every single one of his positions and ideas, from voting against the peace agreement with Egypt to the draconian and inhuman occupation regime on his watch a defense minister, a policy that produced Hamas, among othe disasters, has been a total failure. Only those with a death wish should take his opinions seriously.
