"An Arab state – Palestine. A Jewish state – Israel – living in peace, security and economic cooperation." Yeah Yeah, heard it all before. Now the punch-line! "The remaining disputed issues can and should be negotiated." As if these "issues" are somehow subordinate to Peres' dream-like vision. The issues he alludes to are fundamental and he is burying his head in the sand as the Zionists have no interest in negotiating what they erroneously believe is their divine right to the land including Jerusalem as their eternal capital at the expense of the indigenous population. It beggars belief that the "remaining issues" can be trivialized at such an important occasion. A missed opportunity to show the world Israel is serious about peace and that it intends to make the necessary moves to respect international and humanitarian law and make peace with its fellow Semites.
