Hezbollah is in no way an organization that can be dignified with the appellation "resistance movement" or "freedom fighters." Genuine freedom fighters do not target civilians. Nor do they want to liberate a place that does not belong to them in the first place. Nor do they act as proxies for foreign governments. Hezbollah has always targeted civilians. They blew up the Jewish cultural center in Argentina, they hijacked a Kuwait Airlines plane in 1984 and murdered four passangers. Hezbollah also engaged in a number of kidnappings of Westerners, mainly Americans in Lebanon, and held them hostage for long periods. Hezbollah was the first to use synchronised suicide bombings when in 1983 its operatives targeted peacekeeping forces in Lebanon and blew up the American marines barracks and an apartment building housing French peacekeepers in 1983. The huge car bombings caused the deaths of hundreds of American and French peacekeepers. In 1984, a car bomb blew up the US embassy annex.
