I wonder how all those Orthodox Republican Likudniks would feel if they were really aware that the Chief Rabbinite in Israel doesn't recognize their religious practcies? When the chief rabbi in Sfat says don't rent to nonJews, I guess he includes those people converted by "unrecognized" Orthodox rabbis. How long will it be before those who are Jews by birth are asked to prove that their mothers were "really" Jewish? Perhaps they should show that their mother's mother was really Jewish. Perhaps they should all be suspect like Ethiopean Jews and asked to convert under "recognized" Orthodox rabbis before they should be considered Jews. At what point does Israel do the obvious and take away all authority from the Chief Rabbinate to decide who is a Jew for the purposes of the State of Israel. Their narrowminded, sectarian mishagas does nothing but drive reasonable people crazy and cause disrespect for religion.
