Admittedly the Jews in Israel in '48 didn't have anywhere else to go either. That said, taking land by war amounts to violent robbery and the loser will be plotting to get it back by hook or crook for countless generations, cf. the Balfour Declaration -- but now the shoe is on the Palestinians' foot and the robbery is within living memory. Lets not fool ourselves that without Jewish settlement and Israel in their craw since the end of WWI, the Arabs would have developed Jeffersonian democracies and prosperous economies. Really the smart thing for Israel to do is to pick up stakes and settle in Arizona or New Mexico.
