Today at shul the Rabbi stated that " Democracy is a form of idolatry ". This had to refer to this week's parsha. Well, sure, if you've only been protected from your community's experiences and interpreting everything through the Torah, and not accepting that others come from different experiences and perhaps have had challenges, then how can you identify with other groups or be compassionate towards other people? Usually, in undemocratic structural entities - fear is the underlying criteria of control. That's not healthy.
