"The idea is to have a pragmatic movement that would support the idea of two states on the basis of the 1967 borders and PLO platform, while resolving the refugee problem in an agreed-upon manner based on the resolutions of the United Nations and Arab League.. Fatah in its current state cannot lead a true reform process." - Fayad associate As far as I can see, this will be the old Fatah program, but with a cleaner leadership. The old Fatah program also included democracy and civil rights, and such legislation found its way into the Palestinian Basic Law. Unfortunately, Arafat and the gang that came with him from Tunis were too stuck in the old revolutionary past to carry it out in practice. They have another chance now of remaking Fatah in a homegrown image. I wish them success, except that it is questionable whether elections can be held. If Israel is smart, it will hasten to make a peace deal before these people get discredited.
