Was apt to happen. Syria was only held together by brutal repressionfrom the Assad regime. Some admirers call it political stability; more critical observers call it the tranquillity of a graveyard. Syrians never learned to live in peace with each other, and now the dictator is faltering everybody sees an opportunity to impose its will on others. Nobody is to blame for this but the Syrians themselves, not the USA, not Israel, not foreign agents, just the Syrians. Blaming others for your own failures is the easiest way to escape responsibility and hence a favourite instrument of the Arab world.
