Curious that a holiday that essentially celebrates a miracle affirming a revolt against a government motivated by religion should be the subject of this article. I guess I didn't understand the story. Did not Matthias Macabee off a Jew who he saw sacrificing a pig at a pagan temple? Did his kids, Judah, Elazar, Shimon, Yohanan and Yonaton not raise an army and hammer the Greeks out of the region? Did they not set up a Jewish Kingdom? Keeping Politics out of Hannuka sounds great, but it would mean keeping Hannuka out of Hannuka. Perhaps Carlo should put up a Hannuka Bush and wait for Stanta . . . But he had better not let Mattias Macabee catch him doing it.
