must, at all costs, perpetrate this myth of "all the world is against us", that the Arab hatred of Israel's actions and its oppression of the Palestinians has nothing to do with policy but rather an inate Jew hatred on the part of all Arabs and that this hatred is eternal and will not change. Gordis needs this narrative, can thrive only on its theme. He does not feel, cannot feel, that policy or actions on the part of Israel influence the Arab street. Essentially Gordis and those like him, and the Israeli government itself cannot afford an alternative narrative and will not permit working to form an alternative because then they would have no rationanalisation for defended what is indefensible-continuation of the occupation and the drive to create facts on the ground that will make a Palestinian state impossible. Peace for Gordis, except a peace based on Israel's military might and denial of collective rights to the occupied, is a lethal threat and must be resisted at all costs.
