Lieberman claims that Olmert "did not manage to reach a peace agreement", presumably because of Palestinian refusal. Not at all. Olmert was on the way to a deal, but his term was cut short (by his own corruption). To add injury to insult, he also went to Cast Lead, which brought negotiations to a halt. Netanyahu and Lieberman then came to power and put a final end to the Olmert ideas. Olmert was not a good statesman. There was reason to avoid Cast Lead. Hamas wanted to continue the prevailing cease fire provided the siege of Gaza was lifted. This was too much for Olmert the non-statesman to accept, and he lost his last chance for history making.
