I heard described a few days ago, and it became quite clear that none of the "essential" elements the authors think should be in the conference will actually be there. Israel is refusing to negotiate the substance of peace. The best that can come out of this are a few more gestures towards the Palestinians, another dozen roadblock coming down, another hundred prisoners released, etc. Hamas will not be engaged, nor will Syria. They are "evil", and Bush will not tolerate discussions with them. I only hope there is no conflagration in the region as a result.
