"..policies less aligned with the extreme right wing in America. (That being any lessening of tensions in the middle east, and thus less prospect of the second coming being started with a nuclear war involving Israel.)" - Mark L. I hope Pat Robertson is not pushing for Armaggedon. Is he? The Eldar article is written from the point of view of the Rational Left, which wants to see the US forcing Israel into a more rational policy. It rarely happens. For some not mysterious reason, in recent times the US follows Israeli policies. One example is the old US law that forbade officials from meeting with the PLO. The ice was finally broken when 5 Jewish Americans met with the PLO and got it to recognize Israel and denounce terrorism (1988). Israel had an even tougher law, forbidding any citizen from meeting with PLO officials. They had to leave the room when a PLO man was discovered inside. (US Constitution protects free speech.) The law was finally repealed in 1993, leading to Oslo.
