In Gush Katif civil rights were violated of others when we decided to settle it. Governments, municipalities every day decide on the fate of their citizens by trampling on their civil rights. Isn't it a violation of civil rights when the municipality appropriates some land for constructing a railway or a bus station? Does not the authorities have a right to act on behalf of the common interest of the majority when it infringes on the rights of individual. The point is finding the balance. The abandoning of Gaza was a correct decision done in an amateurish way. Instead of creating an impression(even when it was not correct) of giving it to Palestinian Authority Sharon chose to stick his finger, hand and arm together in Abbas's eye. Here comes Hamas. I guess you are right when you say that all previous governments and not only the present one was complicit in supporting an impossible and basically illegal and unbeneficial situation for Israel. Sometimes the law should not be obeyed blindly. Granted. If we sometimes tried to compromise when the shoe was in the other foot I would say go for it!
