What do you call an armed protester? In Columbia they're terrorists. In NIgeria they're terrorists. In Chechnya they're terrorists. In the Palestinian territories they're terrorists. In Libya, they're rebels. In Syria they're activists. Last year there were thousands of 'activists' occupying public areas in the US, but I don't recall any of them carrying rocket launchers. A few years ago there were thousands of protesters burning cars in France and the UK, but I don't recall them having machine guns. What would the US, France and the UK have called those protesters if they had been armed. More importantly what would they have done to disarm them? In which country does the right to protest include the right to overrun soldier check points, attack police, or fire at anyone?
