Ona very basic level, the difference between right-wing and left-wing people if that right-wing people think they're better than someone else, and left-wing people think we're basically all the same. Obviously it's a lot more complex than that, but that's pretty close to the core of it. The only way you can accept a 43 years hostile occupation of another people, in which you control the other people's lives and they have no vote and little freedom, is if, basically, you think you're better than them. You see it in the posts on here. Sometimes it's blatant, sometimes more subtle, but many Jewish Israelis and Jews abroad think that Israeli Jews are, as a group, more clever, more moral, more civilised, basically better than the Palestinians tbey control. Such attitudes are like a cancer. Once you regard yourself as better than one group, you can suddenly start thinking you're better than all sorts of other groups as well. Pretty soon you're a fully-fledged right-winger. True the Israeli left pretended to be against the occupation, but in the end instead of just witjdrawing as it could have done, it committed the fatal sin of coming to accept the occupation and ultimately even of justifying its continuence. And that's what killed the Israeli left. People like Barak ceased to be recognisably left-wingers years or even decades ago, when they ceased to regard the Palestinians as their equals.
