This is the irresistible, even triumphalst progress of barbarity at this beginning of the Third Millenium. More than once, I have been taunted, by Americans and other Westerners piqued by my obviously sincere but peaceful and enlightened criticism of warmongering Western imperialist-minded nations but also of Al Qaeda and of hard-line Taliban, why don't I do what Rachel Corrie tried to do. And when I am alone, I sometimes feel like hitting my head against a wall asking myself why don't I have the courage to try what Rachel tried to do. I feel ashamed, terribly ashamed of myself.
