"Hamas, or the Muslim Brotherhood, is a Sunni organization whereas Hizbollah is Shiite. Bin Laden is not tied to a local, national cause." - Freddy Freddy, what is important to do is distinguish between anti-Western Civilization groups and other groups. Both may use the technique of terrorism, but the other groups (the vast majority) are not necessarily enemies of the US, and should not be putting that many constraints on US policy. Bin Laden is Sunni, and a US enemy. Hamas are also Sunnis. Does it mean they are enemies of the US? No, they aren't, unless the US defines them as such. Saudi Arabia is full of fundamentalist Sunnis, but they are not enemies of the US (at least not the government). Syria is secular, but supports Hamas for its own reasons. Does this mean they are enemies of the US? They actually want to be friends with the US. Neither Iran nor Hizballah have designs on the US. Likewise, the Tamil rebels in Sri-Lanka use terror but have no dealing with the US.
