In the recent war with Hizbollah, the IDF met organized fierce, resistance for the first time in the military careers of most of the IDF men. It wasn't pretty and the IDF withdrew from direct contact when they started taking heavy casualties among the tanks and men. When the war ended, Hizbollah was almost exactly where they started, within a few miles of the border. On the brighter side, the IAF shone like a star when bombing the undefended apartment blocks in Beruit, just as in recent bombing of various undefended targets in Gaza. The natural conclusion is that the IDF should avoid conflicts in which the enemy defends itself. In the likely future conflict with Iran, Dimona will certainly be a target of Iranian and Syrian missiles, as will all power plants and chemical factories within Israel. Just as the IAF worked its way through every bank, gas station, bridge, TV station, etc in Lebanon, the opposition will also have their innings. It's only fair after all.
