Abbas has tied his fate to Bush`s and Olmert`s promises. Unfortunately, he gets nothing in return other than humiliation: 1. Abbas kept saying that he supports the Roadmap, even as recently as a few months ago. And all this when the Roadmap require "dismantling" the terror groups, including Hamas. No hope then, nor now. Terrorists will not dismantle their weapons until they get a peace deal; see the IRA. Expect humiliation for Abbas sho can`t keep his (unkeepable) word. 2. Abbas was willing to get some crumbs from Olmert; Return of his own money and lifting of a few roadblocks. In the meantime, Israel raids Fatah people, they will strike back, and the punishment will be no money and more roadblocks. 3. Abbas` troops initiated some skirmishes with Hamas in Gaza. Bush was hoping for more. The rest is known. 4. Bush and Israel do not want a unity government again. If Abbas goes along, he will be losing Gaza. 5. Abbas dreams of new elections. Too bad Gaza is beyond his control. He dreams of an international force to fight Hamas. Why should anybody kill himself when it is Israel`s job? Abbas should wake up, smell the coffee, and make nice with Hamas again. Then form a new government of technicians (no Hamas and no Fatah people), and INSIST on a cease fire. Show some backbone and get the respect of your people, then INSIST on peace talks, not crumbs.
