This major shift led to massive and continuing expansion of settlements, the attempt to install a Fascist regime in Lebanon and all subsequent Israeli wars. They Yom Kippur War was the end - the very final end - to the threat of national annihilation by surrounding Arab states which had framed the first 25 years of Israeli existence. It led to an Israel more riven by fear than before, and one for the first time driven by dreams of expansion.
