"Everything is foreseen, but one has free choice" - Rabbi Aqiva (Sayings of the Fathers) Rabbi Aqiva meant that God foresees everything, and his statement appears to be a paradox, but not in the case of Iraq. The takeover by the Shiites was foreseeable by everybody with a semi-functioning brain, even Bush. If one imposes a Democracy on the Iraqis, then the majority (Shiites) will rule. Moreover, they will become allies of Iran. Forget the present civil war, this is only a transition period. Eventually, the Shiites will rule Iraq, unless we are lucky and some Sunni as capable a dictator as Saddam was takes over soon. What should Israel do? The answer is obvious, and not too difficult: Make peace with Syria. This will cut off Iranian influence in our region. Hizballah will be cut off from its source of weapons and will have to finally become a political party. And Hamas will also lose the same and will be weakened. Although Bush may not want to hear at this point, Israel can convince its supporters in the US, and they will explain this to Bush. Repeat it many times until he gets it.
