They simply demark zones of influence (Areas A, B, and C) in exacty the same way that the Allies divvied up Berlin into zones of influence following WW2. They do not demark "borders", and the govt of Israel insists - categorically insists, even under oath before its own High Court - that these are not, and were never intended to be, borders.
