I recently visited the Golan Druse villages. Sitting down to eat local pita and lebaneh at a Kiosk, the owner sat down with us offering us coffee which we graciously accepted. Talk ventured into politics and the owner proceeded to tell us the glories of Syria like their was no other, a true fair and just country (his son was studying there), he rattled off all the evils and excesses of Israel (we were with tourists so he did not know we were Israelis) compared to the Just and free and true Syria. They do not like Israel nor ever will and only find complaint. What can Israel ever expect from them? Eventually Syria will govern them all again (a way will be found that ensures security for Israel- personnally I think that at least part of the Golan around the border area will be returned to Syria) Israel should never trust Syria but that does not mean that we can not find a midway. No Israeli is under the illusion that the Golan Druse will ever be anything other than Syrian.
