Neither the US, the European Union, Russia nor the United Nations will be able to persuade Israel to give an up an inch of territory or make any compromises for peace. These would have to be made by the Netantyahu government and there is no reason for it to compromise since it is getting everything it wants. It wants settlements, then it will build them. It wants the IDF in the future state of Palestine, then it will have it. The idea that the Palestinian Authority has any leverage to negotiate with Israel is preposterous. Statehood will allow the Palestinians to take their grievances to the International Criminal Court and that is what really frightens the Israeli government. Abbas knows exactly what he is doing and Netanyahu is pulling out all the stops to prevent it.
