The problem with this piece is it attempts to balance the PREFERENCE of some Israelis to live in a Jewish state against the RIGHT of the Palestinians to return to the homes from which they were expelled. Preferences are negotiable. Rights are not. Some Israelis may have a preference for a Jewish state, but no one has a right to live in a Jewish state, just as no South African had a right to live in a white state. Israel has to make a choice whether it is a state based on apartheid and ethnic cleansing or a democratic state. It can't have it both ways.
