Obviously it looks like the person was "made to get caught" rather than "made to spy". The question is "Who made him to get caught?". He left Iran in 1980 which paints him sympathetic to the West. The Iranians supposedly offered him $1 mil, which again would not be done with a normal spy. Either way, you have to admit that his shakiness, his weak credentials, are the story.
