The more reactionary, racist, irresponsible and just plain STUPID the Israeli domestic political scene becomes, the more enlightened, committed, morally decent Jews abroad tend simply to avert our eyes, sit upon upon our hands, and quietly cease our substantial financial and moral support for Zionism. As our support continues to dwindle, the increasingly isolated and insecure Israeli right inevitably turns to more reactionary, unethical and less and less enlightened sectors of the Disaspora for assistance, which once again shoves Israel even further down the darkening slope toward internal Jewish fascism. Each day I try my level best to convince my left-liberal U.S. Jewish friends and colleagues that WE TOO are substantially at fault for this alarming and sickening spectacle, because -- if we are truly Jewish -- we have no choice but to assume collective moral and theological responsibility for each and every Jew's behavior. And that we must vastly increase our moral and material solidarity with Israel, not decrease it, if we truly want things to be different. But, for G-d's sake, "you Israelis" daily are making it more and more difficult for even my best, most creative pro-Israel arguments to find a sympathetic ear! And, if it wasn't for those voices in the wilderness like Bradley Burston, I might grow unbearably weary and altogether too sick at heart and cease making such arguments altogether!
