....I can't understand the arguments of the University Presidents at all. Perhaps they're against it because it will end their strange, almost feudal right - to dictate what is taught in their institution - rather than what happens in most Western Universities: where there are standard parameters (similar to the code of ethics) and lecturers operate within these. This code doesn't destroy academic freedom: it unshackles lecturers from administrative and academic oppression by their institutions. Incidentally, academic institutions in Israel that have some kind of ideology seem to do pretty badly in the global academic rankings (IDC, Ariel etc).
