"Olmert said he would be happy to take part in a regional conference that would support direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians." - Haaretz Olmert wants to talk about peace talks, but is not interested in peace talks themselves. He has the American imaginary concept that the Arab world can be divided into two opposing groups, the moderates who oppose radicalism and terrorism, and the extremists who are allies of Iran and other terrorists. In the meantime, Saudi Arabia makes peace between moderate Abbas and terrorist Hamas, and is beginning to develop more ties to Iran. And Iraq invites Assad and Iranians for state visits. The US itself has talked already with Syria and Iran. The whole concept of moderates opposing radicals is a fantasy. The right way to go is to turn "radicals" into "moderates". For example, US and Israeli negotitions with Syria will get Iran out of the Middle East altogether.
