That one should hope for the best but prepare for the worst is a truism. Of course Israel should prepare itself and develop anti-rocket and anti-missile systems. Israel is surrounded by potential enemies and the world is getting more dangerous. Indeed Pakistan is already in possession of nuclear weapons, and is unstable enough for Israel to fear the future, with or without Iran. Israel should not hit Iran even it develops nuclear weapons. Israel does not have the capability to do a thorough job. Leave it to others. Instead, Israel should resort to diplomacy, something the burning Bush does not understand and the burning Sneh does not mention. Peace with Syria will put an end to military Hizballah's supply, and thus kill it. Hizballah will become a political party. This peace with Syria will also weaken the Palestinian rejectionists, rendering them more susceptible to compromise. In any case, Iran's northern wing will be cut off in Syria, and Iran will have to look for new enemies, not Israel which will become marginal to it. Syria should be first on the peace schedule, not last. It is EASY to accomplish, and can be done in a short period of time. Unfortunately, Bush does not allow it, and Israel does nothing to change the idiot's mind.
