The arab Israelis do not recognise Israel's right to be a Jewish state and the arab parties are fighting for the country to become a state of the citizens rather than a Jewish state. Having an arab president is essentially recognising the system of Jewish state because the president is not a political role, the president is supposed to be a figurehead who doesn't criticise government policy so there is no way an arab MK would ever support an arab president unless the system first changed with Israel becoming a state of citizens rather than a Jewish state. The Jews of course ( even Meretz MKS ) would never vote in favour of an arab president because this i a Jewish state.
