If these peace talks collapse a few dangers loom, the least of which is violence. 1. Obama and the UN may impose their own peace terms, which Israel will definitely hate. Obama's promises to the Palestinians may imply as much. 2. If no imposed peace and no progress, Abbas will lose the little legitimacy and little prestige he has left after his term expired, and he may resign. Without new elections, Hamas' speaker of the legislature will become president. 3. Abbas may choose to dismantle the PA (and Oslo), leaving Israel with direct control over all of the West Bank. With no more foreign donations, Israel will bear the financial burden of running the place. 4. The last and least is violence.
