"I think they don't understand the analogy they are making... which is insulting to those who suffered under apartheid." - David Katz, a member of Britain's Jewish Board of Deputies who grew up in South Africa and has long fought the comparison between that country's racial segregation and Israel's ethnic divisions. South Africa is actually a good friend and supporter of the Palestinians, so apparently they are not "insulted" by the comparison of Palestinian condition to Apartheid. How can one understand the silliness of David Katz's statement? Very simple. The organizers of Apartheid Week are concerned about the conditions in the Occupied Territories, not about Israeli Arabs. "It's the Occupation, stupid" Mr. Katz. Don't confuse others and don't set up a strawman to beat. Does Apartheid not apply to occupation situations? Not necessarily. Take a look at the definition and tell me where it says that: "The crime of apartheid" means inhumane acts of a character similar to those referred to in paragraph 1, committed in the context of an institutionalized regime of systematic oppression and domination by one racial group over any other racial group or groups and committed with the intention of maintaining that regime; - Article 7.2(h) , Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court
