Israel is often accused of being the major source of tension and violence in the world today. A more accurate answer would be the religion of Islam. In many countries with a mixed population of Moslems and others, there is Islam-based violence against the non-Muslims. Examples: Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Nigeria, France, Sweden, Great Britain... The list is very long. Moreover, in many Moslem countries, there is a phenomenon of Moslem violence against other Moslems. In Syria, it's Sunni Moslems against Alawite Moslems; in Lebanon, it's Shi'ite Moslems against Sunni Moslems; so also Iraq. Then there's the Taliban of Afghanistan, al-Qaeda in Yemen and Saudi Arabia. In short, Islam is not a religion of peace but of violence and bloodshed. True, most Moslems are peace-loving people who wish only to earn a living and raise their children. But the religion itself, as taught and preached, disseminates intolerance and encourages violence against those with different beliefs, whether Moslem or infidel. The problem cannot be solved by the moderation of the religion, because it is built into the basic beliefs of Islam, as expressed in the Qur'an and the Hadith. I can recommend literature, fort whoever is interested.
