Former New York City mayor and billionaire media mogul tells Financial Times that he is 'looking at all the options.'23:26 08.02.16 | 0 comments
It is very natural for national liberation movements to emphasize the ethnic dimension of their struggle. This was the case of Zionism, which called for establishment of the Jewish state on the historical homeland of the Jewish people. Since then, however, the Zionist movement achieved its goals. The last Zionists were Soviet refuseniks, who struggled for the freedom of repatriation to Israel. As for now, all goals of Zionism have been realized and accomplished. We have society in which Hebrew language is the language of the majority and Jewish culture is living and naturally developing. It's time for normalcy, it's time to overcome the anachronistic and exclusivist concepts of Zionism and Jewish state, they are of no use now when all the goals were achieved. The national liberation movement, when it achieves its goals, must disappear and become just normal state of its citizens, no matter what is their ethnicity or religion. Zionists claimed that Jewish state will be Jewish in a sense England is English. Today, England is multi-cultural society which doesn't separate its citizens into "English" and "non-English". It doesn't legislate special laws that would "strengthen the English character" of England. Neither does it demand from the neighbours the recognition of its "English character". Jewish people must insist on recognition of their historical and political rights on their native land, but we must build normal society which may be Jewish by fact, but must be egalitarian by law and by practice, must not separate its citizens into "Jews and non-Jews", must treat its Arab citizens as citizens, not as "Arabs".
