As long as Israel has no interest to change the status quo, there won't be any progress on the ground for an own palestinian state. and as long as there is no pal state, there will be some form of resistance, and legitimately so! Israel has already created the largest open air prison in Gaza and hold the Pals under similar conditions in the WB. In the case of the WB, that's very convenient for Israel, where as it's hell for the local population. In Gaza, due to the Egyptian boarder, Hamas has got some breathing space and through the mean of random rocket fire, an option to make the status quo for Israel just as unbearable as it is for the population under occupation. That's what Israeli government is so annoyied about, in gaza they can't just keep the Pals in their little ghetto with no negative consequences for Israel as they can do it in the WB. Thus, to seal off the Gaza ghetto properly will not bring peace, it will just make the status quo more bearable for Israel and less so for the Pal. population. But the Pals would find another way to fight the oppression. The only long term solution is the 2 state solution. Sadly, it seems the current israeli government has to be bombed to this conclusion.
