With all due respect to Mr. Moshe Arens, his view on this topic is flawed. Withdrawing from Gaza has been both imminent and necessary from day 1 of these settlements, and he knows this as well as anyone. Removing Israeli citizens from this area creates the perfect situation to retaliate to rocket attacks and any other attacks with an iron hand...as opposed to continuing to "walk on eggshells" due to Jewish presence in Gaza and involvement of fanatic religious right wingers. Those folks (Gaza Jews, mostly New Yorkers) needed to be removed from Gaza years ago. There are utterly no security reasons for being there (in fact, many security reasons for NOT being there) within religious or secular thought. Period, end of story. Similar to Mr. Arens view that USA is over - controlling on issue of deterring Israeli sales of Arrow weapons technology to China - back in Barak's term - today's announcement from USA on nuclear pact with India is clear opening for Israel to have opportunity for these sales to a much more desirable customer, that being India instead of China. As usual, Mr Arens and such thinkers are always suspicious of Israel's best friend - the USA. But the USA has much bigger and more burdensome issues to consider, and not to be immediately judged as "anti-Israel". Oddly enough, old man Sharon seems to be able to grasp this - why can't Moshe Arens?
