Everybody knows what they are doing, everybody condemns it but the politicians are not willing to do anything to stop it. The politicians on both the left and right are terrified of taking on the Waqf out of fear that if they upset the Waqf then they will call the faithful to riot and carry out terror attacks. Temple Mount should be put under the care of some international trust that will guarantee there is no destruction by the Waqf. If possible forcibly dissolve the Waqf. The only reason it was not dissolved by Israel in 1967 was to send a message to the muslims we are not taking over here and we won't get involved in the day-day running of the site. Take it into international control with archeologists working there. If any building is ever going to be allowed then it would be carried out by contractors chosen by this trust and anything built illegally would be torn down overnight and they would provide security forces to make sure anybody can visit and pray at the site anytime ( not just muslims ) Since the outbreak of the intafada the Israeli government restricted access to Jews out of fear of angering the muslims. So the country that said under our watch there will be freedom of access to everybody is restricting access for Jews. Making all major religious sites international property should not be standard policy but the Temple Mount is different and it may be the only way to protect the site
