After reading the comments it apopears that the issue is not Yiddish but TV. Although as a relatively liberal Jew I think that kids learn the most by being exposed to as many different cultures and subcultures as possible I do not have a TV in my home. (and I'm Masorati) Why? In order to be economically viable TV advertising is incredibly manipulative'; it is meant to brainwahs, and the constant subtext is "indulge yourself" (and buy products). These poor kids have few material possessions and are taught that they must sacrifice everything for the families and communities. When Israeli TV forbade commercial advertising and television programming was more controlled I might feel differrently.but nowadays in addition to the issue of making normative gratuitous sex and violence, the theme of virtually all commercial TV (both the advertising and shows themselves) is "me first!". On TV selfishness i.e. self gratification as the primary objective can always be justified. Haredi families and in fact all families that want to provide their children with any level of true spirituality, and that includes non racist patriotism, are trying to teach just the opposite
