Tehran sees herself as a rising power. They look for a 'grand bargain' with the US based on Islamic Supremacy. But that was an unrealistic adventure... and flushed with grandiose pride. Tehran developed inflated ideas of herself based on worthless assumptions. And a serious agreement is now a question whether the Ayatollahs can bring themselves to accept a more realistic outlook. Otherwise, Western policy options seem clear. Push Assad in Syria down the hill... even if it is in slow motion. Isolate Hezbollah in Lebanon... and tighten the noose on Iranian sanctions. The Islamic Republic's economy is tenuous. Holding the line on nuclear ambitions has become a serious setback for the Ayatollahs. One has the notion... that at any moment Tehran can implode simply from the stress alone.
