I made aliyah at age 15. The school system did nothing to help me integrate. On the contrary, I was shunned by administration and seen as a nuisance for needing help learning the language well enough to succeed in school. Ulpan helped me go grovery shopping and buy bus tickets, not deal with biology and Tanach. I saw how much the country really wanted to support young olim and I left my family as did many teen olim I knew. That was many years ago. Too bad that not much has changed. I have four Jewish children of my own growing up in the diaspora, where we will stay. Israel wants immigrants. Israel needs them. Israel was supposed to be my home. I felt more unwelcome there than anywhere.
