All were Mandated territories, yet the British Army (Syria) the Japanese Army (New Guinea) and the US Army (Caroline Isl) did not pretend that they Were Not Occupiers. Int'l law is very clear: what makes this An Occupation is the fact that a foreign army has seized authority over that territory, and the "status" of the territory that has been seized is utterly irrelevent.
